Do you spend 20 hours a week investing in YOU?.... 10 hours? ..... 5 hours?..... Why not? After all, it is the learners who will inherit the earth! How do you compare with other? TAKE THE POLL!
I'm still thinking about it.... a few weeks ago I took some time out and attended a talk. I do this occasionally and LOVE it. Somehow though, when I do it, I feel guilty - for being away from my desk and not WORKING or being away from my kids and husband and not spending every spare moment with them!
At this particular talk an older gentleman from the audience made a comment that I haven't stopped thinking about. He is at the top of his game, a well respected speaker and leader in his industry and he said that he spends about 20 hours a week on his own self-development - LEARNING! Wow! 20 hours! Hearing that did 2 things for me:
1) It made me feel more justified and less guilty about spending time reading, watching or listening to learn.
2) It made me wonder how much time I do spend on my own self-development. And how much time others spend.
Do you wonder too? Take my poll (look below) if you want to see how you compare to others.
I just love Eric Hoffner's quote "In times of change, learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists." So, why don't I do it more?
Here are my affirmations:
- I believe my self-development should be a priority.
- I feel alive and rejuvinated from any learning experience.
I'm going to block time for self-development and feel good about it! What about you? How do you feel about your self-development? I'm curious... please post a comment below.... and take the poll.
What about you? Sitting in a conference recently, an older gentleman in the audience from Eric Hoffner "In times of change, learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists."

I am just recently (past 1.5 years) starting to realize how important this is and how it makes me feel alive. I am more than just pharma rep and mom.
Way to go Kim! Doesn't it feel great to learn and grow and invest in you!
